Self assessment

 My self assessment

Hello to the person reading this, as you already know my name is Anthony Pastrana and this is my self-assessment of my achievements and flaws in this class called FIQW.My expectations for this class were to teach me how to be a better writer. If I was to achieve this I would be able to communicate and express my feelings on a sheet of paper. Hopefully making my story feel like it was manifesting in front of the readers. Also I wanted my reading to be something that the reader could relate to or understand without me messing up on my grammar or punctuation. But for today writing I will be going over the question “To what extent have I achieved the course learning objectives this semester?”—To be honest, I haven’t got there yet, I still mess up a bit and have a long way to go till I achieve that goal of mine for writing a masterpiece of an essay. But not to say that I haven’t learned the layouts to write a good essay. This class gave me the skills to analyze a topic question, define my arguments, and use evidence/reasoning and scholarship to organize a coherent essay. The proof that I will provide is from my writing from this course.

My first essay for this class on the autobiography of Frederick Douglass is a prime example of the skills that I have learned being used. This is due to the fact that I made people understand the power of knowledge and making a difference. From stating the  (ethos) (pathos) and (logos) of Frederick Douglass’s enlightenment on knowledge. My insight  of Frederick Douglass’ experience also gave me the ability to express the reasoning to Douglass’s writing and the message that he was trying to explain using my own words to break it down for the readers. So I have dug into the history of slavery and Frederick Douglass’s own experience. While I was doing that I put it all together to make sense and break down his autobiography for all the important details that I needed to provide the research for the essay.

Although that essay of mine was good. It fails in comparison to the latest work of my research paper on the COVID-19 effect on the working class because in this 8-page long essay I go over the numerous effects and outcomes that came from COVID -19. Also how the working class suffer a great toll from this disease, going over the major casualties and disasters that Covid- 19 had on the people of the United States and worldwide. I did all that by citing from almost 10 to 15 different texts. I used the information from each to make an argument where each piece of evidence that I used made a conversation that connected to my thesis statement of mine. Also I provided my ideas, knowledge, and opinions for that essay to give it depth.

Even my work from the discussion posts helped me to develop as a writer because from each of the writing that I’d discussed I  explored and analyzed the articles that dealt with a variety of genres and rhetorical situations. which I gave my opinions and explained the importance and truth of that article. In addition to that, the journal logs that were given as homework made me picture a situation or moment, which I used my word to communicate to the readers, and hopefully by doing that I made them imagine those situations that I dealt with. My Professor is a major reason for my growth in writing if I haven’t stressed that enough, from providing the latest tips that I can use for my writing and research. Also by communicating with us about any problems that I came across during my research.

To summarize, this class was a stepping stone that greatly improved my writing and made me prepare to take on other college essays that I will have to face in the future. This class even made me break out of my comfort zone of just writing one to two pages to writing eight pages long essays that were composed of texts and my thoughts which were used to explain my thesis with appropriate sources using strategies such as summary, critical analysis, interpretation, synthesis, and argumentation. So to say that I’m glad that my writing skills were greatly improved from these past months and was taken to the next level, not to say that I’m on Stephen king or other great writers level….but I will be close enough for sure with the knowledge and key strategy that I learned from my experience in this class
